Gifts for parents and grandparents come in two kinds: those that arrive in 1 to 7 days, and those made from your photos, which need 13 to 17 working days. For delivery by Wednesday 4 November, four days before Lakshmi Puja on 8 November, a photo gift had to be ordered by 12 October if the seller takes its full stated time, and by 16 October if it is quick. Today is 13 October.
That deadline matters because the people you are buying for are a large group. The government's Elderly in India 2021 report counts about 13.8 crore Indians aged 60 or older, 10.1% of the population, and projects about 19.4 crore by 2031. Most gifts sold to them are an afterthought. They do not need to be.
For parents and grandparents, the safest Diwali gifts are the ones used every day, and anything personalised has to be ordered this week.
Eight gift ideas, with prices
GiftScene tags 81 of its gift ideas as right for parents and 28 for grandparents. We took the eight that suit older people best and worked out the middle "from" price across the live products in each.

| Photo books and magazines | 8 | ₹599 | Grandparents who keep albums |

The gift with a deadline
A photo magazine is the one gift here with a real lead time, so decide on it first. Giftsy Tales sells its Parents Bday Magazine from ₹599, in A4 or A5 and from 8 to 32 pages, with the price rising to ₹3,199 for the largest. The seller states 8 to 10 working days to make it from the order date, plus 5 to 7 working days for delivery. That adds up to 13 to 17 working days, counting weekdays only and ignoring holidays. The page asks for 20 to 25 photos for 8 pages, up to 80 to 85 for 32. The listing is named for birthdays, so ask the seller whether the cover text can say Diwali before you pay.
Start with the photos. Everything else waits on them.
Our personalised gifts guide has the same order-by arithmetic for other sellers.
Easy comfort that ships fast
We think the best gift for a grandparent is one that gets used on the day it arrives. A foot massager fits. The Suspire Kheoni Kansa Wand costs ₹379 on the seller's page, has a bronze alloy head on a teak handle, and states 5 to 7 days for delivery. The page says it soothes tired feet and helps circulation, with no clinical evidence given, so give it as a comfort, not a treatment.
Check the sugar before you buy sweets
The ICMR-INDIAB study in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology (2023) estimated 11.4% of Indian adults have diabetes, about 101 million, and another 15.3% have prediabetes. With odds like that, a box of sweets is a gamble in a house of parents.
Dry fruits are the usual answer, but sellers rarely say whether the dried fruit is sweetened. Omay Foods lists cranberries and raisins in its ₹860 Nutri Nuts box, with shelf life of 4 months, and does not say. Ask the seller, or ask the family. Our mithai and dry fruit guide covers shelf life and delivery.
Experiences, and a bigger budget
GiftScene has one spa voucher and no staycations live this week, so we do not recommend an experience here. Our guide on why an experience beats another object makes that case. For a bigger spend, a Diwali hamper works for the whole household, and the Diwali timing guide has the dates.
What is a good Diwali gift for parents under ₹1,000?
By our count of live listings, incense and dhoop (median ₹270), a photo magazine from ₹599, or a Kansa foot massager at ₹379.
When should I order a personalised gift for them?
By 16 October at the very best for delivery on 4 November, and 12 October if the seller uses its full stated time. Giftsy Tales states 13 to 17 working days in all.
Are dry fruits safe for a parent with diabetes?
We cannot say, and it depends on the person. For the buyer, the thing to check is whether the dried fruit is sweetened, which many sellers do not state. Ask their doctor.
Method: we read each seller's own product page on 13 October 2026 and used only what it states. Median prices are our arithmetic on GiftScene's live listings. The 4 November target is our choice, four days before Lakshmi Puja. We placed no orders, so real delivery times may differ. The population figures come from the Ministry of Statistics' Elderly in India 2021 report and the diabetes figures from the ICMR-INDIAB study, as reported in the press.
