Two of nine Diwali hampers we read on 2 October 2026 contain nothing to eat, and only one tells you what its contents are worth. The nine cost ₹985 to ₹3,850 on the sellers' own sites. Only three give a weight for the food inside: 60 g in a ₹985 basket, 100 g in a ₹1,499 box and 400 g in a ₹3,850 box.
So the price of a hamper says little about what is in it. The contents list says almost everything. Read it before you pay.
A Diwali hamper is worth its price only when the seller lists what is inside by weight or by value, and most of them don't.

Five kinds of Diwali hamper, and who each one suits
Read the lists side by side and the nine fall into five groups. The OyeHappy pair are keepsake hampers: decor and puja pieces, packed in a box that looks like a firecracker and unfolds when its wick is lit or pulled, with no food at all. They suit a family that keeps a mandir at home and wants something new for it, and they will disappoint anyone expecting sweets. BoxUp's Warm Brew and The Bamboo Bae's set are drinks hampers, built around coffee. BoxUp's Prosperity box and The Zappy Box's Joy Box mix diyas with a little food and a useful object. Archies' Sanskriti is a personal-care hamper with chocolates on the side, which makes it a gift for one person rather than a household. The two from The Dotted i are the only ones where food, by weight or value, is plainly the point.

What pads a Diwali hamper
Packaging and paper are the cheapest way to make a box look full.
Here is what we counted across the nine contents lists:
- 3 count a greeting card as an item.
- 3 count the box or basket itself as an item.
- 2 put a mug inside. Our study of 4,125 Reddit posts found branded coffee mugs are the most-mocked office gift.
That study counted 308 mentions of hampers and gift boxes. The complaint that came up was not the price. It was the ratio: one employee described a ₹500 box as ₹200 of mithai, ₹200 of namkeen and ₹300 of packing. The study's list of what employees do want includes a hamper of useful goods, not 80% packaging.
The one hamper that prices its own contents
The Dotted i's Mera Wala box is the only one of the nine that puts a rupee figure on what is inside: sweets worth ₹1,000 (Mysore pak or motichoor laddoo) and a candle or home gift worth ₹850. That is ₹1,850, or 62% of the ₹3,000 price, before the nuts, savouries, baatis and agarbatti. Its sister box, the Heritage hamper, names a weight instead: 400 g of dry fruit and snacks, plus two brass plates that outlast Diwali. We think these two are the best value of the nine, not because they are cheapest, but because you know what you are paying for.
Before you order: veg, Jain and freshness
Of the nine, only the Mera Wala box carries fresh mithai. Its page gives no shelf life, so ask the seller when the sweets will be made and how long they keep.
None of the nine product descriptions we read says whether the food is Jain. If it matters, ask before you order, and prefer a hamper of sealed nuts and dry fruit, which travel and keep better than mithai. For sweets on their own, see mithai boxes and dry fruit boxes.

Diwali hampers: common questions
What should a good Diwali hamper contain?
Food you can weigh, or an object that lasts beyond Diwali. Check that the seller lists contents by weight or value, and count how many items are only a card or the box.
Is a ₹1,000 Diwali hamper worth it?
It depends on the list. At about ₹1,000, BoxUp's Warm Brew holds 60 g of coffee and hot chocolate with five diyas, while OyeHappy's ₹990 box holds decor and no food.
Which Diwali hampers have the most food?
Of the nine we read, The Dotted i's Heritage hamper states the most by weight, 400 g of dry fruit and snacks for ₹3,850, and its Mera Wala box holds ₹1,000 of sweets.
Method: we read the 12 products on GiftScene's Diwali hampers page, plus BoxUp's Warm Brew, on each seller's own product page on 2 October 2026. Four were left out because their pages don't give a full contents list. Counts, weights and the 62% figure are our own arithmetic. Prices and contents change, so check the seller's page before ordering. None of these sellers pays GiftScene.
