Why it works as a gift
Art supplies are the tools of drawing and painting: colour pencils, acrylic and watercolour paints, sketching pencils and sketchbooks. They suit a student, a hobby painter, a child who loves colouring or a grown-up who wants to start again. The seller's page tells you what is in the box, so check the number of colours or pieces and the paint type (acrylic, watercolour or gouache). Itsy Bitsy sells artist-grade pencils and acrylics, MAP Shop a sketchbook from a museum shop, and Giftoo, Suspire and Kitsters smaller sets, a tin of sketching pencils and plantable pencils. For a make-it-yourself project with the paper and paint included, see DIY craft kits.
Contents, sizes, prices and delivery times read on Itsy Bitsy, MAP Shop, Giftoo, Suspire and Kitsters' own product pages on 2026-10-31.
Who it's good for
Who should skip it
- Someone who already owns a full set in the same medium: ask what they are short of
- A very young child: pencils, brushes and paint tubes are small and need an adult nearby
- Anyone who wants a finished, ready-to-hang painting: for that see wall art
How to choose
Itsy Bitsy's Premium Artist Colour Pencils (₹999) come as 36 shades in one box; its listing says they have a round grip, break-resistant leads and soft wood that sharpens easily.
Itsy Bitsy's Artists Acrylic Set (₹649) is eight colours in 30 ml tubes; Giftoo's 24-colour tube set (₹599) has 12 ml tubes of watercolour paint that it calls non-toxic and acid-free; Kitsters' Acrylic Painting Set (₹349) is six paints, two brushes and a palette.
Giftoo's 29-piece sketching kit (₹899) comes in a metal case with 14 graphite pencils plus charcoal pencils, blending tools and accessories; MAP Shop's A5 sketchbook (₹397) has a multi-colour cover and is a pocket size at 14.8 x 21 cm.
Suspire's set of 10 coloured pencils (₹249) has seeds at the tip: once they are used down, the stubs can be planted to grow herbs, flowers or vegetables, says the seller.
What to check
- Match the kit to the person's medium: pencils for someone who draws, acrylic for canvas, wood and fabric, watercolour for paper.
- Count what is in the box: Itsy Bitsy's pencils are 36 shades, Giftoo's paint tubes are 24 colours, Kitsters' set is six paints with two brushes and a palette.
- Check the size and tubes: Itsy Bitsy's acrylics are 30 ml tubes and Giftoo's watercolours are 12 ml, so the same number of colours holds very different amounts of paint.
- Allow time: Itsy Bitsy's shipping page says delivery is free above ₹999 and ₹129 below that, and does not state delivery times, so ask the seller if the gift is for a date.
